Miskawayh was an outstanding Muslim thinker of the Buyid period. This presentation examines the philosophy of Miskawayh with respect to the relationship of morality to self-interest. Lessons will be drawn for modern philosophy, particularly for those who are interested in defending virtue ethics from the charge of egoism.
